Culmore Clinic Outfitted with AED & Training
Just Like a Boy Scout... Be Prepared!
During the month of August, Culmore Clinic non-clinical staff participated in training for use of automated external defibrillators (AED). The Clinic is outfitted with an AED and it's a device all our clinical staff know how to use. The non-clinical staff have now all been trained is using this life-saving device. An AED is a portable device which delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart when it detects an abnormal rhythm. The shock changes the rhythm back to normal. According to the American Heart Association, AEDs help people who have a sudden cardiac arrest. A person's chance of surviving drops by up to 10% for every minute a normal heartbeat is not restored. Therefore, immediate CPR and an AED can double a person's chance of survival. While it is our hope that we will not have occasion to need to support a patient or visitor to Culmore Clinic by breaking out the AED, we're prepared, if we do.
